Kill To Get Crimson, plus 2 bonus reviews!!* - I hadn t purchased a CD for a long time and hesitated before buying this one. At the same time, I purchased All the Roadrunning. After listening to both over the course of a couple of months, I can say that I quite like All the Road Roadrunning, but thoroughly enjoy Kill To Get Crimson, thus the 5 stars. I agree with other reviews I ve read which have indicated that it takes a couple of times through to fully appreciate it.After buying enjoying those two albums, I bought Sailing to Philadelphia, also by Mark Knopfler, but that one didn t quite approach the quality of Kill to Get Crimson, although it isn t bad at all either, just not quite up to the best Mark Knopfler has been capable of over his career. ( * 3 1/2 stars for Sailing to Philadelphia and 4 out of 5 for All the Roadrunning!)

Nothing really new but... - I m a great fan of Mark Knopfler since his debut with Dire Straits. That new CD is in fact nothing new. It is a very nice CD, well done as usual and I like it a lot but... something is missing to make it a great work. However it s worth buying because his music is still great and if you enjoy his other works you should be content with that one too. Unless you are a collector or a great fan, I would not recommand you the CD/DVD edition because the DVD is too short (not even 20 min)and is just a presentation of studio where the CD was recorded, the guys working on it (musicians and producers) and you can admire Mark being a model for the cover. Cover that has a nice painting... that was a good choice.

Hold judgement until heard a few times - I ve got everything Mark has ever recorded and this CD is a lovely departure for this fine artist. Like others, I was a trifle deflated when I first listened to it as I too was expecting more of the rock element. Watching the 20-minute accompanying DVD is helpful as Mark explains the roots of his inspiration for this CD. It is a folk album and should be viewed as such. Very mellow, melodic and stripped down, it is a different beast than the older CDs. I expect this may be another path he ll follow that features more of his songwriting abilities and relates more emotionally to the music he wants to produce. Give this CD a chance. I m sure it will grow on you too.

A much mellower Mark - I ve been a fan of Mark Knopfler for many years and buy any cd he put s out on the reputation of his name. When I reviewed Shangri La a few years ago I said that gone were the type of songs like Speedway at Nazareth, and Darling Pretty. Still, if you listened hard you could hear hints of the older Mark Knopfler and the guitar riffs of Dire Straits days. Sadly, I can t say that for this album. That being said I do enjoy the album but it is nowhere near as upbeat as previous efforts. I quite enjoyed songs such as True Love Will Never Fade, and Let it All Go, but on the whole one song flowed into the next and it was hard to distinguish one from the other. I m definitely going to have to listen to this album several more times to get a truer appreciation of it.
